Study expression of potential remyelination targets in MS mouse model mainly experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) and Cuprizone, as well as normal mouse and human tissues. Determine what cell type(s) expresses target of interest. Perform histology to support in vivo studies in Neuroimmunolgy group that includes development of automated immunohistochemical (IHC) protocols for new neuro-specific markers and use these protocols and staining to support in vivo studies in Neuroimmunolgy group. Develop method and workflow for Laser Capture Microdissection to look at gene expression from individual cell type such as microglia, astrocytes, oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPC) in MS models, mainly EAE, Cuprizone and MS patient tissues. Lead cross-functional collaboration of qualitative and quantitative analysis of neurological markers by organizing and leading the meetings, analyzing the data and generating reports from pathological scores/reports and quantitative analysis of these markers in rodent tissues. Manage outsourcing to vendor laboratory of histology that includes processing, gross dissection, embedding and sectioning. Aid in tissue harvesting from euthanized rodents. Establish projects/models using specific brain and spinal cord gross dissection methods.
Special Requirements:
Broad knowledge of immunohistochemistry, with experience in immunoflourescence, and cell culture techniques
Experience with tissue processing and tissue slicing
Demonstrated ability to work independently and to collaborate effectively with other scientists in a team environment
Demonstrated ability to critically interpret data
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment
Excellent problem solving, organizational, and documentation skills, with a strong focus on attention to details and results interpretation
Demonstrated strong verbal and written communications skills.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Master of Science degree in a biological sciences field and at least 5 years of relevant laboratory research experience
Or no less than a Bachelor of Science degree in a biological sciences field and at least 7 years of progressively responsible, relevant laboratory research experience
OR any suitable combination of education, training and experience
